A valued and long-standing client is looking for a skilled Marine Fabricator to join the central Auckland team. The company has dedicated fabrication facilities in a business focused on refit work in the superyacht, high-end leisure and commercial sectors.
You will be an experienced professional, with a track record as a fitter / turner / precision machinist / welder, and including NZ trade certification (or equivalent) in at least one of these trades.
Supporting the marine engineering team, you will be able to devise and design timely solutions to the many and varied challenges they face on a wide range of commercial and leisure vessels.
You will also be able to maximise opportunities and capacity by taking in direct contract/jobbing fabrication work, so you will need to be able to balance out the demands of both sides.
Once up and running, you will be responsible for the entire fabrication cycle from ‘soup to nuts’, with a focus on a product finished to a very high and exacting standard. Extensive experience in stainless steel (especially polishing) and aluminium is a must – for this client, only the very best will do, and we shall request examples of your work as evidence at interview.
You will be competent to operate a CAD package (SolidWorks), and have the ability to produce cut files for ordering materials and to create new CAD designs and ‘as built’ drawings for customer documentation.
Of equal importance to your hands-on capabilities will be your ability to work with customers in a polite, focused and responsive fashion as you devise and implement their solution. You will therefore be well-presented and an able communicator, so that you can elicit all the information you need and deliver on time to requirements.
This 'end-to-end' focus should be a source of real job satisfaction to someone who takes pride in a great finished product done right first time.
You will enjoy full support from the management team and you’ll be well-remunerated in return for your talent, but it will be very much left to you to carve out your own success, and self-motivation will have a big part to play.
In common with the rest of the team, opportunities for ongoing training and development (which will benefit both you and the company) are proactively supported and encouraged.
